Knock Knock. April is at the door. Yes, already. We’re down to a Final Four. The Masters is 10 sleeps away. Baseball started, stopped, and started again. Before you know it, the playoffs in the NBA and NHL will be here. What a time to be alive!
Final Four
As our College Basketball season descends on Indianapolis, 64 games have been completed, and 3 remain. What a tournament this has been. As a sports fan, you always want “best on best” and we have just that. Debate it with a wall. In reality, the only elite teams that didn’t stick around for the party were Florida and Duke.
What’s already troubling is how many people, before Sunday night, were dismissing the other two teams in Indy. Does Arizona v Michigan look worthy of being the title game? Sure it does. But let’s not forget how damn good both Illinois and UCONN were all year, and still are.
Of the four teams that remain standing, UCONN opened the season with the best title odds. Illinois is HUGE, and very young. The youth can mean the lights are too bright -or- they have no fear. UCONN, as if you needed any more of a reminder, has Championship DNA, just ask Duke. In fact, the team least likely to be fazed by the moment(s) in Indy is UCONN.
We’ve got a great Final Four, and while Michigan and Arizona both look unstoppable, and have for most of the year, the team that awaits that winner on Monday won’t be a pushover.

💲 Remember above where I said that you shouldn’t sleep on the UCONN/Illinois winner having a chance to win this thing? Personally, I love both of these teams. I’m leaning to the experience of the Huskies, but you can grab (if it's still there) Illinois at +400 to win the National Championship or UCONN at +550 still. Either way, that's better ML odds than you’ll get in the title game. I’m no math whiz, but I GUARANTEE one of them will be playing for the title on Monday. Seat at the table, right?
💲 Azaleas are in full bloom, the menu is set, and the Masters is about here. While history will tell us that first-timers don’t win at Augusta, Chris Gotterup could be the exception. Gotterup has a tremendous ability to keep the ball low when needed and has a setup that is perfect for Augusta. With his last 12 months of success on tour, I think he’s well worth a flyer at +3500 (It also isn’t the first wager I’ve laid down on him there either)
💲 Rookie of the year in MLB might be the most compelling race of the season, especially in the American League. While one could say this is a possible overreaction to just one weekend of ball, it seems as if Munetaka Murakami is every bit the real deal. While playing in Chicago might hurt some of the power numbers, just watch this guy swing the bat. Professional hitter, and he won’t stay +500 for long. I’m down for the ride.
